Oil Price Spike Threatens Aid to 1.5 Million Children Worldwide
Save the Children has warned that higher oil costs could cut aid to nearly 1.5 million children worldwide due to increased delivery costs.
The organization stated that crude oil prices surged after the US-Israeli war on Iran in February, from an estimated $60 a barrel in 2026 to as high as $126 by the end of April.
According to Save the Children, aid-delivery costs have risen by about $13 million since the start of the conflict, which could have otherwise provided assistance to almost 1.5 million children.
The organization's global supply chain director, Willem Zuidema, stated that 'the conflict in the Middle East is not only putting children at risk in the region, but also globally because every spike in fuel prices drives up the cost of every truck, every shipment, every box of supplies we deliver around the world.'
