Oil Price Surge Drives Gold Down to Four-Week Low
Gold prices fell on Tuesday as rising oil prices fueled inflation concerns and strengthened expectations of elevated interest rates in the US. The precious metal dropped to its lowest point in over a month, hitting $4,287.69 per ounce, down 0.2% from the previous session.
The decline in gold was accompanied by decreases in other precious metals, with spot silver falling 0.4% to $62.98 and palladium ticking 0.8% lower to $1,282.79. However, platinum gained 0.1% at $1,761.12.
The sharp increase in oil prices has heightened inflation worries, which is a key factor influencing the direction of interest rates. As a result, investors are adjusting their expectations and positioning themselves for potential rate hikes.
