Oil Price Surge Threatens Aid to 1.5 Million Children Amid Conflict
Volatile oil prices are threatening lifesaving aid worldwide due to rising logistics costs. Save the Children warns that almost 1.5 million children's assistance is at risk.
The conflict in the Middle East has caused a surge in oil prices, which rose as high as $126 per barrel by the end of April, up from the projected average of $60 in 2026 before the fighting began. It is now trading at about $90 per barrel.
The organization's global supply chain director, Willem Zuidema, stated that every spike in fuel prices drives up the cost of aid delivery worldwide. 'We are being forced to spend more to reach fewer children,' he said. Save the Children called for a lasting peaceful resolution to the Iran conflict and sustained humanitarian funding.
