Oil Prices Climb on Strait of Hormuz Uncertainty
Oil prices experienced a slight increase in early trading on Wednesday, marking gains for the fourth consecutive session. The uncertainty surrounding crude supplies remains high due to conflicting positions from Iran and the United States regarding navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Brent crude futures rose by 26 cents, or 0.29%, to $91.28 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude increased by 37 cents to $85.31. These prices represent the highest levels since July 24, amid declining hopes for a deal to end the war between the United States and Iran.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington is not negotiating with Tehran, confirming that the Strait of Hormuz is open. This position contrasts with previous Iranian statements regarding its continued closure to navigation. The temporary ceasefire agreement expired on Monday, with warnings of a shift in Iran's stance towards a more aggressive military approach due to stagnation in the diplomatic track.
