Oil Prices Decline Amid Escalating US-Iran Tensions
Oil prices declined for the second day in a row on Tuesday, dropping to $88.10 per barrel of Brent crude. This decrease is occurring despite escalating tensions between the US and Iran, with the Trump administration imposing new sanctions to further harm Iran's economy.
The drop in oil prices is easing worries about high inflation in the bond market, which had driven Treasury yields higher throughout the summer. The yield on the 10-year Treasury fell to 4.66% from 4.70% late Monday and from 4.74% at the end of last week.
Nvidia led the way on Wall Street, rising 2.3% after its AI-related stocks veered up and down through the summer on concerns about their high prices. The company will report its latest quarterly results on Wednesday, which could influence the next move for AI-related stocks.
Dick's Sporting Goods reported weaker-than-expected results for the latest quarter, with a 25.5% drop in stock price. The retailer cut prices on some of its footwear and apparel to remain competitive but faced disappointing sales from new launches during the quarter.
