Oil Prices Decline Amid Hopes for Negotiations on Strait of Hormuz
Oil prices continued to decline on Thursday, marking their fourth and fifth consecutive days of losses for Brent crude futures and West Texas Intermediate crude futures, respectively.
The fall in oil prices was attributed to hopes that negotiations between Iran and Qatar could lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway connecting major oil producers with global markets.
Iran and Oman have proposed an interim agreement on the strait's control, while Qatari Prime Minister will travel to Iran on Thursday to resume diplomatic talks aimed at ending the conflict.
Daniel Hynes, senior commodities strategist at ANZ, noted that concerns about a shortfall in the oil market remain, despite improved prospects of reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
