Oil Prices Defy Escalating Middle East Tensions
Global oil prices have taken an unexpected turn despite escalating tensions in the Middle East. Despite threats of war, Brent crude futures dropped 1.06% to $89.78 per barrel, while US WTI fell 0.76% to $83.82 per barrel.
The recent missile attack on a US base in Jordan and subsequent strikes by the US and Saudi Arabia against Iran-linked groups in Iraq initially caused oil prices to spike. However, analysts note that geopolitical headlines often lead to short-term price increases rather than long-term changes.
Experts attribute the stable market to the continuation of crude oil supplies from the Persian Gulf region, despite the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. This is preventing a significant increase in energy prices for now.
