Oil Prices Drop as US-Iran Tensions Ease
The US-Iran conflict has eased slightly, and as a result, oil prices have dropped. The price of Brent crude, the international standard, fell by 6.3% to $85.87 per barrel for October delivery. This is a sharp reversal from last week when oil prices surged to over $100 per barrel due to concerns about global oil supplies.
The S&P 500 rose less than 0.1%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 0.5%. However, the Nasdaq composite fell by 0.2% for its fourth consecutive loss. The three major stock indexes are on track to end this month in the red, marking their second straight monthly decline.
Markets in Europe and Asia were higher than those on Wall Street. Bond yields also decreased, with the yield on the 10-year Treasury falling to 4.65% from 4.69%. Technology companies played a significant role in shaping market trends, with mixed results for major players like Microsoft, Apple, and Nvidia.
Investors are eagerly awaiting corporate earnings reports this week, which could provide insight into consumer stress and the justification of record stock values. The Federal Reserve will also release an update on its interest rate policy on Wednesday, with a 36% chance of a rate hike expected by Wall Street.
