Oil Prices Hold Steady Above $80 Amid Ongoing Geopolitical Tensions
Oil prices have stabilized above $80 per barrel due to ongoing geopolitical tensions and concerns about inflation, despite hopes for a lasting ceasefire between the US and Iran.
Bianca Botes, managing director at Citadel Global, noted that softer US inflation data has provided some support for global markets, but uncertainty surrounding the Middle East continues to influence investor sentiment.
Analysts warn that rebuilding global energy supply chains will take longer than financial markets anticipate, with Brent crude easing to around $84 a barrel on Thursday morning.
Brian Arcese, portfolio manager at Foord Asset Management, stated that oil markets have reacted too quickly to diplomatic developments and overlooked the slower recovery taking place in the physical energy market.
He added that restoring normal oil flows involves more than just political agreements, requiring time for tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, insurers to cut war risk premiums, and ships to return from alternative routes.
