Oil Prices Leap Above $100 Amid Red Sea Tanker Attack
Global oil prices surged above $100 per barrel for the first time since late May on Thursday, following an attack by Iran-backed Houthi militants on two Saudi Arabian tankers in the Red Sea.
The price of Brent crude, the global benchmark, reached $100.72 a barrel as of 10 a.m. EST.
US oil prices also rose to nearly $92 per barrel, their highest level since early June.
President Donald Trump pointed out that Iran would be held responsible if further attacks by the Houthi militants occur.
