Oil Prices Offset Boost from Strong Earnings in Global Markets
Global stock markets were mostly lower on Tuesday as rising oil prices and inflation concerns offset robust corporate earnings reports. The France CAC 40 slipped 0.5% to 8,533.66, while Germany's DAX fell by the same margin to 26,198.88.
The UK's FTSE 100 was little changed, down less than 0.1% at 10,710.12. In Asia, Japan's Nikkei 225 sank 2.5% to finish at 67,460.73, while South Korea's Kospi lost 1.6% to 6,869.83.
Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was little changed, down less than 0.1% to 9,070.00. Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained nearly 0.1%, while the Shanghai Composite added 0.2%.
Oil prices have been a major concern, with Brent crude rising 0.1% to $90.94 a barrel after gaining 2.7% on Monday. The price of US crude rose 0.6% to $84.99 a barrel.
