Oil Prices Plummet 7% Amid Easing Geopolitical Tensions

Crude oil prices plummeted over 7% this week as geopolitical tensions eased near the Strait of Hormuz.

The decline was fueled by diplomatic efforts between the US and Iran, which led to a shipping agreement and dissipated the risk premium that had driven up oil prices in recent weeks.

OPEC+ approved a plan to increase collective oil production by 188,000 barrels per day starting in September, further contributing to the downward trend.

In India, the drop in crude oil prices has mixed implications for investors. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) like Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL), and Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) may benefit from lower raw material costs and improved refining margins.

However, upstream companies such as Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Oil India could face pressure on their profitability due to lower global crude prices.
