Oil Prices Plummet Amid Eased Tensions and OPEC+ Output Boost
Global crude oil prices took a hit on August 3, plummeting by over 4% during Asian trading hours. October Brent crude futures fell to $84.10 per barrel, while September WTI crude futures dropped to $80.89 per barrel.
The sharp decline was triggered by reports that U.S. President Donald Trump had abandoned plans for a military strike on Iran, potentially easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. However, Tehran has not confirmed any formal agreement, with Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stating that Washington does not dictate the terms or timing of conflict.
The market also factored in OPEC+'s plan to increase daily oil output by 188,000 barrels starting in September, which added downward pressure on prices. The move is seen as a response to growing global supply and demand dynamics.
