Oil Prices Plummet Amid Renewed Optimism Over Strait of Hormuz
Oil prices experienced a third consecutive day of decline on Wednesday, weighed down by potentially positive developments in the Middle East and new fears over Russian escalation in Ukraine.
U.S. crude oil fell as low as $79 per barrel early in the day, marking its lowest price since August 13, while the international benchmark Brent dropped to around $85 a barrel.
The downward trend was briefly reversed midday after reports emerged of Russian President Vladimir Putin's plan to escalate his war with Ukraine, but prices ultimately ended the day slightly lower.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration announced that oil stockpiles had risen by fewer barrels than analysts expected, contributing to the price decline.
