Oil Prices Plummet as Trump Ditches Iran Strikes for Nuclear Deal
Oil prices plummeted $4 per barrel on Monday after US President Donald Trump held off on planned strikes against Iran, opting to pursue a rapid nuclear deal instead.
The decision sent shockwaves through the market, with Brent crude futures sliding 4.64% to $83.85 and U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude falling 4.74% to $80.66 per barrel.
This move comes after previous price surges of over 20% last month following heightened tensions between the US and Iran, as well as attacks on several tankers in the Gulf.
