Oil Prices Plummet as US-Iran Ceasefire Agreement Hopes Rise
Brent crude prices plummeted below $90 per barrel on July 27, following a US-Iran ceasefire agreement that raised hopes of reduced tensions in the region.
The price drop was significant, with Brent crude tumbling approximately 7.6% to around $89.43 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate followed suit with a roughly 6.7% decline to settle near $83 per barrel.
US equity futures reacted positively to the news, surging during early trading hours as lower energy costs reduced input prices for businesses and eased inflationary pressure.
However, experts caution that a pause in hostilities does not necessarily translate to a peace deal, with previous attempts at ceasefire talks having produced multiple false starts.
