Oil Prices Plummet on Strait of Hormuz Reopening Hopes
Oil prices dropped significantly on Wednesday after news emerged that Iran and Oman had resumed talks to manage the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway in the Middle East. The development has raised hopes that the Strait could reopen, leading to a decline in oil prices.
The Brent crude futures fell by $1.78 or 2% to $86.80 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures dropped by $1.49 or 1.8% to $80.87. The losses come on the back of more than 3% decline in both benchmarks on Tuesday.
The renewed hopes for the Strait's reopening are seen as a positive development for the global oil market, which has been impacted by tensions between Iran and other countries in the region.
