Oil Prices Plummet on US-Iran Tension Easing
Global oil prices took a hit on Tuesday as tensions between the US and Iran began to ease. The relaxation of hostilities raised hopes for continued energy exports from the region.
The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil price for September delivery dropped by 2.28%, reaching $80.72 per barrel at 4:04 a.m. Eastern Time. North Sea Brent crude for the same month declined 2.76%, trading at $85.92 per barrel.
The US President's announcement of 'friendly' talks with Iran and the possibility of a peace agreement between the two sides contributed to the decline in oil prices. However, Iranian officials emphasized that the ongoing naval blockade by the US is seen as 'continuing the war,' casting a shadow over the region's political and economic atmosphere.
