Oil Prices Plunge as US Pauses Iran Strikes
Oil prices plummeted on Monday to their lowest levels in over a week after the US temporarily suspended its air strikes against Iran.
The move raised hopes of a diplomatic solution that would allow shipping to resume in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil supplies.
Brent crude futures fell by $8.42, or 8.7%, to settle at $88.36 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures dropped by $6.70, or 7.5%, to close at $82.61.
Analysts say the market is seeking good news from an arena that is not providing any guarantees for oil flow from the area.
