Oil Prices Rally Amid Hopes for Iran Peace Talks
Oil prices rose this week despite recent attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, which raised fears of supply disruptions. The price of Brent crude settled at $96.78 a barrel, down $3.91 or 3.88%, after settling above $100 for the first time since May.
The U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures finished at $89.31 a barrel, down $2.88 or 3.12%. Analysts say that the market is reacting to hopes of resumed peace talks between the United States and Iran, which could ease tensions in the region.
John Kilduff, partner at Again Capital, said, 'There's nothing this market loves more than hope.' Phil Flynn, senior analyst with Price Futures Group, noted that energy markets are in a precarious state and warned that the situation could turn on a dime.
