Oil Prices Rebound Fades as Tankers Navigate Conflict Zones
Oil prices have dropped as oil tankers continue to navigate through conflict zones in the Middle East, despite escalating tensions. Brent futures fell by $1.29, or 1.42%, to $89.45 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude decreased by 56 cents, or 0.66%, to $83.90 a barrel.
The recent spike in oil prices was short-lived as the situation persists, with alternative routes and methods being explored to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. Tony Sycamore, an IG market analyst, notes that while overall volumes are reduced, 'oil continues to leak out of the region through multiple channels.'
The Strait of Hormuz is the world's most important oil shipping route, through which a fifth of global oil and gas flows previously passed. Iran has ruled out an Omani proposal for regional joint management of the strait, while US-Saudi strikes have hit Iran-backed paramilitary forces in Iraq.
