Oil Prices Skyrocket Amid Escalating US-Iran Tensions
The global oil market is experiencing a surge in prices due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Brent crude futures have risen by 0.65% to reach $94.39 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures have climbed 0.26% to $87.60. This increase is attributed to US military operations and the naval blockade imposed on Iran.
The OPEC basket of crudes has also seen a significant rise, increasing by 1.72% to $92.84 per barrel. In contrast, Russian Urals crude has fallen by 2.85% to $86.32 per barrel.
According to field military reports, US naval forces have taken escalatory measures to enforce the blockade, including diverting approximately 68 commercial vessels and disabling three others. This has had a direct impact on trade, with Iranian crude oil shipments declining sharply to one-seventh of their pre-crisis levels.
