Oil Prices Slump Amid Escalating US-Iran Conflict
Oil prices declined slightly on Thursday despite the escalating US-Iran conflict. The drop came as oil tankers continued to navigate alternative routes out of the region, easing immediate supply concerns.
As of 7:10 am Bangladesh time (01:10 GMT) on Thursday, July 30, Brent crude futures dropped by $1.29 or 1.42%, to $89.45 per barrel. Similarly, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude slipped by 56 cents or 0.66%, resting at $83.90 a barrel.
Market analysts attribute the ongoing movement of commodity vessels as the reason for the temporary reassurance of traders. This comes after a massive spike in oil prices during the previous trading session, with Brent surging by 7.91% and WTI by 6.56%, one of the sharpest single-day jumps seen during the five-month conflict.
Experts warn that prolonged disruptions to key maritime routes will keep global fuel markets highly unstable, despite the current alternative shipping channels preventing a total supply chokehold.
