Oil Prices Soar Above $99 Amid Escalating Middle East Tensions
Global oil market prices surged above $99 per barrel, reaching their highest level in three months due to escalating tensions in the Middle East. Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure led to the shutdown of several facilities, including the Jazan refinery with a capacity of 400,000 barrels per day.
Additionally, Israeli-Lebanese tensions have intensified again, contributing to the oil price increase nearing the $100-per-barrel mark. The conflict surrounding Iran has limited the ability of OPEC+ countries to increase production, further exacerbating the situation.
OPEC+ left production quotas for October unchanged after completing a voluntary production cut of 1.65 million barrels per day in September. However, Saudi Aramco delayed part of its September oil supplies to European buyers despite an increase in nominations to 1.3 million barrels per day.
