Oil Prices Soar Amid Escalating US-Iran Tensions
Crude oil prices are soaring as tensions escalate in the Middle East. The US-Iran conflict is driving up energy supplies, and the situation is exacerbated by drone attacks on Russian oil infrastructure.
OPEC delegates expect to pause oil production hikes at their meeting this Sunday, following a final increase of +188,000 bpd in September. This decision comes as OPEC's June crude production rose by +2.34 million bpd to 18.75 million bpd.
The EIA report showed that US crude oil inventories were -6.4% below the seasonal 5-year average, gasoline inventories were -6.6% below the seasonal 5-year average, and distillate inventories were -8.5% below the 5-year seasonal average.
The ongoing conflict between the US and Iran is causing a shortage of global crude oil supplies due to reduced flows through the Strait of Hormuz. The International Maritime Organization has warned that it's too dangerous to cross the strait at the moment, resulting in a sharp decline in visible transit.
