Oil Prices Soar Amid Global Economic Uncertainty
The global economy is facing new challenges as oil prices have spiked to $103 per barrel, marking an 8% increase. The cost of gasoline has also jumped to $4.30 a gallon and diesel fuel has crossed the $6 mark for the first time ever.
The rising costs are largely due to the conflict in the Middle East and growing government deficits. However, even with these factors, the stock market didn't do too badly, falling only 0.58% on Thursday.
Despite this, investors may be questioning how rising interest rates will impact a boom that is increasingly dependent on borrowed money. The energy sector, which in theory should benefit from high oil prices, also dropped on the day, suggesting skepticism about the economy's ability to support such elevated costs over time.
