Oil Prices Soar on Fading Iran Deal Hopes and US Inventory Concerns
Crude oil prices continued their upward trend on Tuesday, reaching above $83 per barrel for a fourth consecutive session. The increase in price is attributed to fading hopes of a US-Iran agreement that would fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump's introduction of new demands has complicated negotiations between the two countries.
Trump stated that Iran would be required to provide compensation for people it has killed in conflicts as part of future negotiations, following Tehran's own calls for reparations related to the war. This move has added uncertainty to the potential agreement and contributed to the increase in oil prices.
Oman and Iran's negotiations are reportedly at an advanced stage, offering some hope of progress toward a deal. However, concerns over US inventories remain, with crude stocks held in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve falling to their lowest level in more than four decades.
