Oil Prices Soar on Middle East Supply Concerns Amid Iran War Impasse
Oil prices have surged to three-week highs as concerns over supply disruptions in the Middle East continue amid an impasse in the Iran war. Brent crude futures for October delivery rose $2.44, or 2.7%, to $94.06 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures for September added $1.84 to $87.67 a barrel.
The more-active October WTI contract was up $2.41, or 2.9%, to $86.80, hitting its highest level since July 24.
Analysts point to tensions in the Middle East as a key factor contributing to the price increase, with UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo stating that 'tensions in the Middle East remain high, leaving room for further supply disruptions.'
The UAE's decision to suspend all financial and economic transactions with Iran has also contributed to the market's focus on strained ties between major Gulf Arab oil producers and Iran.
