Oil Prices Soar on Strait of Hormuz Uncertainty
Oil prices rose on Wednesday, reaching a three-week high as investors weighed conflicting signals from Tehran and Washington about the Strait of Hormuz's status. Brent crude futures climbed 1.3% to $92.20 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude traded 1.7% higher at $86.38 a barrel.
The uncertainty stems from the United Arab Emirates' decision to suspend all financial and economic transactions with Iran following recent missile attacks. Meanwhile, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains slow due to lack of clear signaling on its reopening.
Dennis Kissler, senior vice president of trading at BOK Financial, attributed the crude futures' support to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. He noted that the UAE's decision to cut off financial ties with Iran adds to the uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
