Oil prices surged on Sunday as tensions between the US and Iran escalated following a U.S. strike on two Iranian launchers near the Strait of Hormuz.

Brent crude futures jumped 2.5% to $90.30 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude added $2, or 2.4%, to $85.42.

The increase in oil prices raises concerns about possible disruptions to global energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz, a major shipping corridor for oil shipments.
