Oil Prices Soar Past $108 Amid Hormuz Disruptions
Crude oil prices surged past $108 per barrel on Monday as disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz intensified concerns over global energy supplies.
Analysts warn that a sustained rise in oil prices could weigh heavily on the Indian rupee, inflation, corporate profitability, and market valuations.
Market analyst Vipin Dixena expects investors to remain cautious due to uncertainty over oil supplies, stating that India's markets may begin trading with a 'risk-off' bias following the rise in crude prices and weakness across Asian equities.
Dixena notes that the key concern for India is not merely the immediate 3% rise in crude prices but whether oil prices remain above $100 per barrel for an extended period, which could increase pressure on the rupee, raise inflation expectations, and squeeze corporate margins.
