Oil Prices Soar to $100 per Barrel Amid US-Iran Conflict
Global oil prices have surged to $100 per barrel, marking their highest levels since July. The increase is attributed to prolonged disruptions in oil supply due to ongoing conflicts between the US and Iran.
Petroleum analysts predict that prices will remain high unless fighting ends. Brent Crude, the global oil benchmark, rose 2.8% on Wednesday following reports of further clashes in the Middle East, including US strikes against Iranian oil tankers and Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis with GasBuddy, noted that gas prices have also reached record highs, with Labor Day seeing the most expensive average gasoline price nationally at $4 per gallon. Diesel prices surpassed their 2022 peak, reaching a new all-time high above $5.82 per gallon.
The President was asked about high oil prices and how he plans to address them. In response, he stated that allowing Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon is unacceptable, but predicted that oil prices will drop after the election.
