Oil Prices Spike 4% Amid Renewed US-Iran Tensions
Oil prices increased by 4% week-on-week due to renewed US-Iran tensions and uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude traded at $87.12 per barrel, up 4.27% from last Friday's close of $83.55. The rise in oil prices was also influenced by attacks on Libyan energy facilities, which added to supply concerns.
The US-Iran tensions have been a major contributor to the increase in oil prices. Iranian officials stated that talks with Oman on establishing a safe maritime route through the strait had made progress, but stressed that the discussions did not mean the waterway would reopen.
US President Donald Trump's indication that further military action against Iran remained possible if diplomacy failed also added to uncertainty over US-Iran talks and increased concerns over possible supply disruptions.
