Oil Prices Stall Amid Renewed US-Iran Tensions
Oil prices edged lower on Wednesday, steadying after a strong rally driven by renewed US-Iran tensions. The fear of prolonged disruptions to crude supplies from the Middle East has heightened concerns.
The U.S. launched fresh airstrikes against Iranian targets overnight, prompting retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Tehran against U.S. forces in Jordan and Bahrain. This escalation has raised concern that the conflict could further restrict tanker movements through the Strait of Hormuz and deepen an already significant supply shock.
ING analysts noted that despite the stalemate between the US and Iran, oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical issue. They said that rising tensions clearly put crossings at risk, with ship-tracking data suggesting modest volumes.
