Oil Prices Steady Amid Lebanon Tensions and Hormuz Risks
The global oil market has steadied in recent days due to ongoing tensions between Lebanon and Israel, as well as concerns about attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Brent crude prices have remained relatively stable below $89 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate prices hovered near $83.
The situation in Lebanon has escalated, with the country's deadliest day of fighting in months occurring on August 16. Israel struck Iran-backed Hezbollah, and wider negotiations between Iran and the US appear to be at a standstill.
Meanwhile, attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz have continued, including vessels affiliated with Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. Despite these risks, Middle Eastern producers are pressing ahead with shipping large volumes of crude out of the Persian Gulf, exceeding market estimates of 4 million barrels per day.
