Oil Prices Surge Above USD 108, Indian Markets Braced for Risk-Off Start
New Delhi [India], September 14 (ANI): The ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz have led to a significant surge in oil prices, with Brent crude reaching USD 108 per barrel. This rise has prompted concerns over the rupee, inflation, corporate margins, and market valuations.
Market analyst Vipin Dixena expects Indian markets to begin Tuesday with a clear risk-off bias due to the sustained rise in crude prices. He noted that the key issue for India is not just the 3 per cent increase in crude but whether oil remains above USD 100 for an extended period.
The prolonged high crude prices can put pressure on the rupee, inflation expectations, and corporate margins, particularly for oil-importing sectors. As a result, rate-sensitive and consumption-oriented pockets may experience weakness while energy-related stocks could remain relatively resilient.
