Oil Prices Surge Amid Escalating Attacks on Saudi Arabian Energy Infrastructure
Oil prices surged by over 3% on Monday after attacks on Saudi Arabian energy infrastructure and ships in the Middle East exacerbated supply concerns. Brent crude futures rose to $107.82 per barrel, while US WTI futures gained 2.8% to $102.82.
The attacks included a drone strike on Saudi Arabia's East-West Pipeline, which was temporarily shut down. This pipeline is crucial for bypassing the Strait of Hormuz and rerouting oil exports through the Red Sea.
According to industry sources, the shutdown threatens up to 4% of global oil supply, but analysts believe that Saudi inventories will cushion exports in the near term.
Janiv Shah, an oil markets analyst at Rystad, stated, 'The relatively contained price reaction suggests the market still expects Saudi inventories to cushion exports in the near term, but if the disruption extends beyond the five-to-seven-day inventory cushion, that could change quickly.'
