Oil Prices Surge Amid Ongoing Middle East Tensions
Oil prices rose on August 10 amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world's oil is transported, remains uncertain when it will reopen.
Iran announced that a deal with Oman to establish new shipping lanes was nearing completion, but reiterated that the waterway would only reopen after Washington met additional conditions, including compensating Iran for US attacks.
The US and Iran are not holding talks, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who stated that Iran will not enter negotiations as long as the US continues to breach an interim deal signed in June.
Supply concerns were heightened after a Saudi oil facility was attacked over the weekend by the Iran-aligned Houthis. The UAE's ADNOC reported that 15 of its vessels had come under attack while transiting the Strait of Hormuz since the conflict began.
