Oil Prices Surge on Uncertainty Over Strait of Hormuz Reopening
Oil prices rose on Monday as uncertainty persisted over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran stated that a deal with Oman defining new shipping lanes was in its final stages, but emphasized that the U.S. must still meet other conditions.
The price increase was seen in Brent crude futures and U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil prices. By 2206 GMT, Brent crude futures had risen $1.20 or 1.44% to $84.79 per barrel, while WTI oil prices were at $79.29 a barrel.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway for global oil trade, and any disruptions can significantly impact the price of oil. The current uncertainty surrounding its reopening has led to increased volatility in the market.
