The price of oil has surpassed $100 a barrel for the first time in almost six weeks after a series of attacks on oil facilities and ships in the Middle East.

The most heavily traded contract for a barrel of Brent crude, the international standard, saw a significant jump in value following the incidents.

According to reports, the price of Brent crude rose by 2.4% to $100.29 early Wednesday morning after settling at $97.89.
