Oil Prices Surge Past $100 Per Barrel Amid Escalating Tensions
Oil prices surged on Thursday, reaching a six percent increase and surpassing $100 per barrel for both Brent and U.S. crude futures.
The price jump was fueled by escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly with Iran-aligned Houthis seizing control of Yemen's port of Mocha, posing a further threat to Red Sea traffic.
Simon-Peter Massabni, head of business development at XS.com, warned that the threat is no longer confined to a single choke point, but now includes the potential for disruptions to ripple across regional export routes, oil production sites, and other energy infrastructure.
The conflict has been ongoing since May, with Brent crude futures trading at their highest since mid-May, reaching $107.08 per barrel, and U.S. oil topping $100 a barrel for the first time since then.
