Oil Prices Surge Past $100 Per Barrel Amid US-Iran Tensions
The price of oil has surpassed $100 per barrel for the first time since July 24, 2026. This increase is largely due to escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran, with both countries engaging in military actions against each other's ships. On Tuesday, Iranian authorities announced successful missile strikes on two American destroyers in response to actions against their oil tankers. The price of November futures for Brent crude oil rose by 2.75% during trading on September 9, reaching $100.60 per barrel.
The conflict between the U.S. and Iran has been ongoing since June 10, with both countries engaging in a series of military actions against each other's ships and infrastructure. The U.S. Central Command reported the destruction of five Iranian oil tankers in retaliation for an attack on a U.S. Navy ship.
