Oil Spill Hits Iran's Qeshm Island Amid Tanker Attack Risks
Iran is facing an oil spill off its key Persian Gulf island of Qeshm, highlighting the environmental risks associated with attacks on tankers in the region.
Satellite images show a dark, elongated trail in waters off Shib Deraz, a coastal village known for being a breeding ground for endangered hawksbill sea turtles. The spill has also left black deposits on the beaches.
A cleanup operation is underway, according to the semi-official Iranian Students' News Agency.
