Oil Spill Hits Qeshm Island as Clean-Up Efforts Begin
A massive oil spill has occurred off the coast of Qeshm Island in Iran, affecting over one kilometer of coastline. Thick, black oil has washed up on the island's southeast coast, with pools of oil visible along the beach.
Iranian officials are investigating the source of the pollution, with a marine source among the possibilities. According to Shahmorad Jafari, head of the Qeshm Island Department of Environment, the pollution had affected 'over 1 kilometer' of the beach.
