Oil Spill Near Qeshm Island Highlights Environmental Risks of Tanker Attacks
An oil spill has been reported near Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf, highlighting the environmental risks associated with tanker attacks in the region.
Satellite images show a dark trail of pollution off the coastal village of Shib Deraz, along with black deposits on nearby beaches.
A cleanup operation is underway, according to the semi-official Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA).
The ISNA report did not specify the source of the pollution, but tanker trackers suggested that it may have resulted from an attack on a bulk carrier earlier this month.
