Oil Spill Off Oman Coast Sparks International Response
A major oil spill off Oman's coast has prompted an international response to contain the damage. The Caroline Bezengi tanker, carrying around 800,000 barrels of Russian oil under international sanctions, ran aground on June 30 near a marine nature reserve.
According to Ambrey, a risk management firm coordinating the salvage operation, the spill has spread across the area and hit Oman's coastline. The company has deployed a 'leading international oil spill response company' with equipment including 100 metric tons of gear and aircraft to mitigate the environmental damage.
An annual monsoon in the region is complicating the efforts, Ambrey said. The ministry responsible for Oman's agriculture, fisheries, and water resources is monitoring the impact on sea life and advising fishermen to stay away from the affected area.
