Gold prices took a hit on Monday, falling Rs 500 to Rs 1,55,400 per 10 gram in Delhi as crude oil surged to a four-month high and the US dollar strengthened.

The price drop came despite silver bucking the trend and remaining steady at Rs 2,34,600 per kilogram. Globally, spot gold declined by 1.3% to USD 4,291.71 per ounce and silver plummeted nearly 3% to USD 62.82.

Akshat Siddhant, Lead Quant Analyst at investment platform Mudrex, attributed the fall in gold prices to investors pricing in a probable Fed rate hike. Higher oil prices have added to inflation worries, further pressuring demand for gold and silver.
