Oil Tanker Ablaze in Strait of Hormuz Amid Regional Tensions
An oil tanker caught fire in the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, according to Iranian media. Satellite imagery confirmed the vessel was ablaze, and emergency teams were rushing to the scene.
The Fars News Agency reported that an oil-spill response and firefighting ship named ADNOC AR01 arrived at the location. However, authorities withheld details on casualties and the cause of the fire.
The incident occurred against a backdrop of regional tensions. On February 28, Israel and the US launched coordinated strikes against Iranian military, nuclear, and energy infrastructure in response to Tehran's alleged involvement in an attack on Israeli-owned cargo ship MV Helios Ray in the Gulf of Oman.
