Oil Tanker Explodes After Hitting Naval Mine in Strait of Hormuz
An oil tanker exploded after hitting a naval mine in the Strait of Hormuz on July 26, according to Iranian media. The incident allegedly occurred when the tanker deviated from a shipping route designated by Tehran.
The 'rogue' oil tanker, as described by Iran's Tasnim News Agency, had reportedly departed from the specified route before colliding with a sea mine.
Tasnim said Iran had repeatedly warned ships that deviating from their designated route would result in consequences. Iranian authorities had not commented on the incident at the time of publication.
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts between Iran and Oman regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and their respective territorial waterways were ongoing. Omani officials traveled to Tehran for talks, coinciding with President Donald Trump's decision to pause US bombings on Iran.
