Oil Tanker Explodes After Hitting Naval Mine in Strait of Hormuz

An oil tanker exploded in the Strait of Hormuz after allegedly hitting a naval mine, according to Iranian media.

The incident involved an 'rogue' oil tanker that deviated from a shipping route designated by Tehran before colliding with the sea mine, said Iran's Tasnim News Agency.

Tasnim reported that Iran had repeatedly warned ships of consequences if they deviated from the specified route.

Despite the incident, progress has been made in talks between Iran and Oman on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and their respective territorial waterways. Regional sources told CBS News that while things are heading in a positive direction, diplomacy requires more time to reach an agreement.
